David Fletcher and covered the complete story of the Rolls-Royce Armoured Car. It details its design and development as it fought in the Great War and the turbulent inter-war years.
The first Rolls-Royce armoured car was used by the Royal Naval Air Service in Flanders in 1914. It was a privately owned car fitted with a machine gun and some armour plate. Within a year nearly 100 had been built and were being used by the army. The vehicles were fast, quiet and reliable. But the big selling point was how powerful they were. They went on to serve across the Empire after being modified. It last brief appearance was in the early stages of World War II.
